First Flight of the Space Shuttle Columbia

Edwards AFB

April, 1981 - Left to right, there's my old partner Lorne Morrison with 9-G's Louise, our charter pilot, and Greg Rich our reporter. I'm the guy on the right.

Covering the first landing of Columbia was one of those once in a lifetime events that I was able to witness as a newsman. The shuttle made a double sonic boom as it came overhead.

Little did we know that this beautiful machine would one day disintegrate, killing the entire crew.
