Power Conditioning

Through this door you can see into the emergency generator room. On the wall is the power conditioning required to keep the station on the air at the end of an 18-mile power line.

Closest to the door is a large Sola constant voltage transformer which conditioned power to the transmitter.

Behind the large Sola are the controls for the generator transfer switch. Once a fault has been detected on the shore power, the controller will start the generator, wait till it has warmed up and stabilized, and then switch to that power source. It then monitors shore power and will switch back and stop the generator after the shore power has been stable for a preset period of time.
