This picture was taken about 2 minutes after I met JoAnne, and about 5 minutes after checking into our small hotel on Easter Island.

We were given a video tape of a Nova special on the island to watch on the flight over. Most of the tape consisted of the camera crew following the world's leading expert on Easter Island heads around the island. You guessed it, it was JoAnne Van Tilburg.

Imagine our surprise when we encountered her walking towards us down a small dirt road later that day!
