The Tasman Glacier is located in Mount Cook National Park on the South Island of New Zealand.

It's only a short flight from Christchurch through the rugged New Zealand Alps, but you're transported from a sophisticated urban environment back to the ice age. The glacier is 27 kilometers long and almost 2000 feet thick at the top.

When your plane finally lands on the glacier, all you can hear is the wind.
