The Tasman Glacier Chart
It takes roughly 100 years for the ice to work its way from the accumulation zone, or neve, to the bottom of the ablation zone where it is slowly converted from ice directly to water vapor without first melting into water. Over the last eighty years the glacier has been shrinking and slumping as global temperatures rise. The affects of climate on glaciers is complex and not completely understood and depends on winter snow fall and the warm summer rains.
