While approaching the Straights of Gibraltar from the Atlantic, we detected a submerged Russian Submarine.

We, another destroyer, and a P2V anti-submarine aircraft prosecuted the contact for 26 hours until the submarine gave up from exhaustion and surfaced. It was a rare event.
