ASROC stands for Anti-Submarine Rocket. It's a rocket boosted torpedo with an acoustic homing head.

These things are expensive so the navy didn't test fire them that often. The launcher housed something like 16 rockets, each in its own container.

You can see the rocket exiting the launch tube at the upper right of the picture and the exhaust coming out at the bottom left.

It burned the paint right off the deck! At the time I took this picture I was working in the Weapons Division. I ended up as a Radarman.
