As Salalah in 1967 I was in Oman in 1967 when I was in the navy. My destroyer was the only US Navy war ship in the entire area. Now we station several carrier task forces there constantly. These scruffy fellows were the honor guards for the British RAF base - at the time, the only Westerners within 600 miles. These people lived just as they had for hundreds of years. Things have changed since I was there.
