Venice is a Dying City
Venice floods many times a year and many of the building are slowly falling into decay. In 1965 the population was 150,000 but now it's down below 70,000. The cost of maintaining a home in the wet environment is high and rebuilding projects are going on everywhere you look. It's probably a loosing battle. As you tour the city from the comfort of the #1 water bus you see many residences like this one. The bottom floor has been abandoned to the water and the people have retreate upstairs. |
