 | Colossus Detail Colossus looked very much like a 1950-vintage telephone switching office with hundreds of stepping relays. Unlike the average phone exchange, this computer mixed vacuum tubes with the relays to add tremendous speed. At the bottom of the picture you can see several patch pays which were used to program Colossus.
