I designed and built this little 2 GHz transmitter. It went in that small black box. This is Hazcam. It's a chemical-proof, water-proof, color television system that ran for up to 13 hours on its internal batteries. The 2 GHz ENG signal is received at this remote site on Loma Prieta and then relayed back to the station in Oakland via 7 GHz. The path for this test was 56 miles. That's a long distance for a 200 milliwatt signal from an omni-directional antenna with no gain! This is a freeze frame from the test as recorded back at KTVU.
