The guy in the front of the picture on the left is Marty Knudson - one of the first 7 pilots selected to fly the U2. He flew the U2 for 21 years, much of it deep over Russia during the height of the cold war.

It was pure luck that he didn't take Gary Powers last flight. They were buddies and had drawn straws. Gary lost.
